and threatening scale. **DIALOGUE & TEXT** Speech Bubble (from a Bulgar scout, whispering in fear): "By the gods... it is the whole world marching..." Panel 6: Strategic Retreat
Bulgar cavalry and soldiers setting fire to their own wooden
settlement (Pliska). They retreat into thick, mist-covered forests and
mountains. A necessary sacrifice. Somber, smoky atmosphere. **DIALOGUE & TEXT** Speech Bubble (from an old veteran soldier, torch in hand, tears in his eyes): "My father built this gate..." Panel 7: The Mountain Trap
Bulgar warriors constructing a massive wooden palisade barrier
across a narrow, rocky mountain pass (Vărbitsa Pass). They work with

Panel 8: The Feast of Fools
From above: The Byzantine army, confident and disordered, camps
inside the narrow pass. Bonfires light the scene. Krum and his
commanders look down from the dark cliffs above like predators. **DIALOGUE & TEXT** Caption Box (Krum's perspective, ominous): "They feast in the valley of death." Thought Bubble (from a Bulgar commander beside Krum, barely a whisper): "Like lambs in a slaughter pen." Panel 9: The Ambush Unleashed
Chaotic night battle in the mountain pass. Bulgar warriors pour
down from cliffs, attacking the trapped Byzantine camp. Flames, shadows,
and confusion. Emperor Nikephoros is seen in the distance, trying to
rally his men. Dynamic, violent. **DIALOGUE & TEXT** **Large Sound Effect (dominating the scene):** - **KRRAK-KOOM!** Speech Bubble (Nikephoros, shouting over chaos): "Form ranks! Epilogue:
"The Battle of Vărbitsa Pass was a stunning victory, but for Krum, it was incomplete. Emperor Nikephoros had escaped. And with the smoke of Pliska still staining his memory, Krum's vow of vengeance solidified into a single, terrible purpose: to march to the very gates of the Roman world itself. The Scourge had risen... now it would fall upon Constantinople."
